Both the score and Scorsese's commentary track do not appear on the Columbia-Tristar's 1997 & 1999 DVDs.

First Universal DVD of John Carpenter's THE THING replicates content of Laserdisc, plus adds isolated stereo track of Ennio Morricone's score under the feature-length documentary.

While the 2004 DVD lacks the isolated score, all tracks - excepting the film's opening titles - are on the original MCA LP and Varese CD (which have superior sound).
